Class started as usual with students turning in their homework assignments for me to check and while they worked on the warm-up for lesson 41. When they finished their warm-up, we went over the questions and answers and then moved on to the content of lesson 41 which they caught onto really quickly! We then talked about lesson 42 with short-division and how to check if a number is divisible by 3, 6 or 9. Students needed quite a bit of practice with the short-division style so we did LOTS of practices so that they became more comfortable with it which meant we didn't have a lot of time to go over the rest of the chapter. If your student needs help identifying if a number is divisible by 3, 6 or 9, please have them reread that part of the lesson :)
Homework: Lesson 41 ODDS and Lesson 42 EVENS

We started off class with lesson 40 warm-up while I graded their homework. We then went over the warm-up and questions from the homework assignments before moving on to the lesson 40 content of diagrams of mixed numbers and writing quotients in mixed numbers. Students seemed to really grasp this material rather quickly! We then went over the Investigation #4 in their book and students learned how to measure the opening of an angle as well as how to create an angle with a particular degree using a protractor! It took a bit of one-on-one time to ensure everyone understood how to do this but by the end of class everyone was a lot more confident in using their protractors!
Homework: Lesson 40 EVEN questions only and TEST #7 Class started off by students completing their Lesson 38 Warm-Up while I handed back their tests and looked over their homework assignment. We then went over the warm-up and moved on to talking about Mixed Numbers and Fractions on Number Lines (lesson 38) and doing the practice for that as well as learning about how to compare fractions by making diagrams (lesson 39). When doing the lesson practice for 39, I stressed the importance of dividing the shapes into EQUAL segments and that it was much easier to do that with rectangles than circles. I also wanted to make sure students put the shaded-in rectangles right next to each other (one on top, one on bottom) so they could more clearly compare the two. Students then had time to work on their homework and ask questions about their tests.
Homework: TEST corrections AND lesson 38 and 39 ODDS only. Tomorrow we will begin class by doing lesson 36 warm-up and I will check homework for completion points as well as collect their Test #6. We will then go over any questions they had from their homework before going over the warm-up questions. After that, we will move on to lesson 36 content and practice and lesson 37 content and practice before assigning the homework.
Homework: Lesson 36 and 37 EVENS We started class off by going over the homework and answering questions as well as going over the warm-up for lesson 35. We then went over the content for lesson 35 focusing a lot on the format for the equations dealing with comparisons and passing of time. Students then worked on the lesson practice and we went over that before discussing what kinds of questions they will find on their Test #6. Sadly we did not have time for the review game which would have reviewed all the terms they have learned so far such as sum, product, difference, communicative property, etc. because class was too chatty today.
Homework: Lesson 35 EVENS and TEST #6 (same rules apply for this test as the others). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me :) We will start class by passing back their tests (as long as I receive all the missing tests beforehand) and we will go over any questions they may have. Then we will go over the homework from last night to see if they had any problems they wanted to work on as a class. Afterwards we will go over Lesson 33 and 34.
Homework: Test corrections AND lesson 33 and 34 ODD questions only. Today we talked a bit more about geometry with lesson 31 and 32. There were A LOT of vocabulary terms that the students should read through again to make sure they are familiar with. We learned about parallel lines and segments, perpendicular lines and segments and intersecting lines and segments as well as angles, sides, vertices and polygons--specifically what makes something a polygon (more than three segments that enclose an area AND it has to be flat (not 3-D).
*we also went through the homework and I collected their tests :) Homework: Lesson 31--ODD questions only and Lesson 32--EVEN questions only. Sorry for the delay in this post! On Wednesday we spent the whole hour going over homework (students actually had 4-5 questions they wanted to review which was great!) and then we also worked on Investigation #3 from the tests and worksheets book. We talked a lot about fractions and how we look to the denominator to figure out how many equal groups we need. So, if we had a total of 24 people and we wanted to know what 1/8th of that total would be, we would look at the denominator--8--and divide the total number--24--by 8 to get 8 equal groups of 3. So 1/8th of 24 would be 3! Investigation #3 focused on 1/3rds, 1/5ths and 1/8ths as well as the fractions from Investigation #2 (1/4th, 1/2, and 1/10ths). We started solving the problems that corresponded with the Investigation #3 but we did not finish.
Homework: Finish the Investigation #3 questions (using your manipulatives would help you a lot!) and complete TEST #5. Please place the test in a sealed envelope and sign on the envelope as well. As always, I'll grade the tests :) |
