We started class by beginning a new unit on places and animals. We started a new vocabulary list and made flashcards and then after that we took notes on the verb vivir and did some practices.
Tarea: finish the vivir practice on the back of the notes and cut out and color flashcards.

We started class by sharing what they wrote in their Venn Diagrams and passing back the tests they took on Monday (they did a great job!!). We then moved onto an Easter craft with Bible verse as well as a word search and color by numbers activity.
Tarea: try and use your Easter and Holy Week vocabulary this week!! Today we started off class by reviewing for the test and singing "cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies." Once students finished their test they we given new seats and we started learning a bit about Easter in Mexico. Students were given a new vocabulary list with words associated with Easter and Holy Week and then we read a brief summary of some common traditions associated with them. tarea: Create a Venn Diagram comparing the traditions associated with Easter and Holy Week in Mexico and USA. You should have at least 5 facts for Mexico, 5 facts for USA and at least 3 facts for how they are similar. AND please bring colored pencils and a large eraser to class on Wednesday if you have them!! We started class by reviewing the date and weather in Spanish and then we did Objetivo 5 to prepare for the test on Monday. We also played piccionario, sang cabeza hombros rodillas pies, played tarjetas de flash and did a listening activity in which students had to listen to me tell them what colors to use when coloring in the body parts on a black and white drawing of a girl.
tarea: study for the test on Monday! I'm back! What fun day catching up with students! A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Vrablic for subbing for me while I was gone--the students had a great time learning Spanish from her and they are doing an amazing job with learning the parts of the body in Spanish!
We started off with Objetivo #4 and I checked the homework before going over the answers to the objetivo. We then sang, "cabeza, hombros, rodillas, pies" a couple times (each time going faster and faster!) to review before playing tarjetas de flash. After a couple rounds of tarjetas de flash, we played Simon Dice and then worked on a "Doler" worksheet in which students wrote sentences on what hurts based on the pictures they were given. Tarea: Review doler and vocabulary for the test next Monday! Look over the labeling of the body parts and face as well as your doler worksheet :) Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes! I wanted to let you know that Emilia Jo was born Thursday evening and is a strong, healthy baby! We are all doing well :)
We started off with our second objetivo and after that students reviewed their vocabulary before we moved on to a speaking activity. After their review students took turns looking at a picture of an activity and asking each other if they liked to do that activity or not. We finished up class with a worksheet activity where they had to draw pictures and write sentences stating what they like to do and what they do not like to do.
Tarea: Complete your me gusta, no me gusta worksheet and STUDY your vocabulary! As mentioned before, today was most likely my last day before maternity leave so please be on the lookout for emails from our sub, Mrs. Vrablic for updates on what was done in class and for homework assignments. Class started with Objetivo 1 for our new unit. We then went over the vocabulary again before playing our flashcard game. After a couple rounds we focused on the verb Gustar and students took notes and practiced writing sentences with gustar
Tarea: Study, study, study! Start memorizing your vocabulary and review your notes on gustar so you are ready for next Wednesday. We started off class by practicing some new phrases in order to talk about what students did over break. We then jumped into our new unit on Likes and Dislikes as well as learned some verbs to go along with it. After going over the vocabulary, students were given their flashcards and we filled them out together and then they had time to color in their flashcards.
Class is also being held in room 207 (Mrs. Vrablic's room) to prepare for when she is my long-term sub and will be teaching my classes in her room. She could take over any day now but my official last day before maternity leave will be January 17th unless I have the baby sooner. Homework: Finish coloring your flashcards and CUT them out :) Feliz Navidad...break! :)
today we went over their Nabidad books and finished them up by learning about Noche de Reyes and Dia de Reyes. We also tried Rosca de Reyes and Andrea found the baby Jesus (or yellow skittle in our case). Tarea: Have a wonderful break!!! Today we learned about Nochebuena and Navidad. Class started off with our third objetivo over the vocabulary and then we sang "Burrito Sabanero" as a class--we have a very talented choir of students! We then did a little reading on Nochebuena and Navidad in which I would interject every now and then with a few more details or clarifications. Students then colored in their "stained glass" ornaments depicting the nativity scene (ask the students why we focused on the nativity scene today!) and then we discussed what their homework would be.
tarea: BRING YOUR NAVIDAD BOOKS TO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY! I will be looking these over for a grade. You should have a page on the Poinsettia, Las Posadas, Chocolate Caliente, Nochebuena and Navidad. EACH PAGE should have notes written on it. Below you will see the layout that I told the students they should create for their homework tonight. One page should be notes (and pictures too if you would like) on Nochebuena and the next page should be a Venn Diagram on Navidad in Mexico (accent on the "e") and EE.UU. (United States "Los Estados Unidos"). You should have at least 5 uniquely Mexican facts, 5 uniquely EE.UU. facts and 3 things they have in common. We started off class by going over the test they took recently on Family and Pets and then I checked their homework while they did their second Objetivo on Navidad terms. After going over the Objetivo students shared their Navidad book with their neighbors and then we went over a presentation on "Las Posadas." After learning about Las Posadas, students were able to work on their Navidad book and also try a bit of Mexican Hot Chocolate! They all claimed to like it which was great! You should ask your student how it was different from the hot chocolate they might be used to :)
Tarea: Finish writing notes and drawing pictures on the next two pages in your Navidad book---the second page should be on "Las Posadas" and the third page should be titled "Chocolate Caliente," For the Chocolate Caliente page, write the down the song as well as the recipe! Look through your handout if you need some help remembering details. We started off class with an Objetivo over our Navidad vocabulary and then we sang "Burrito Sabanero" as a class and reviewed what the song meant as well as how to say the Spanish words correctly. We then read a story about the Miracle of the Poinsettia which shows why the poinsettia is an important symbol of Navidad in Mexico. We then made poinsettia ornaments as well as a blank book in which students will fill in information that they learned about Mexican traditions surrounding Navidad.
Tarea: Decorate your cover page of your Navidad book. Please write "Navidad en México" and "Por: _name_" somewhere on the cover. Add color and make it look nice! on the first page upon opening your book, write "La Poinsettia" on the top of the page and then write down some important facts you learned about the poinsettia from the reading we did in class (you should still have the reading if you want to go through it again!), draw a picture of a poinsettia too :) MAKE SURE TO BRING YOUR NAVIDAD BOOKS TO CLASS ON WEDNESDAY as we will add to them in class! Class started by my collecting any late homework while students reviewed for their in-class test. After about 5-10 minutes students began their tests and then when they all finished we talked about our next mini-unit which is Navidad! We went over some common Navidad vocabulary words and then learned a traditional song, "Mi burrito sabanero"
Tarea: Look over your vocabulary terms! Today was our review day before the in-class test on Wednesday! We started off with our 5th Objetivo which followed the same format as the test. We then checked the objetivo and I graded their family tree projects while they shared them with their classmates. After that, we did an interviewing activity in which students asked their classmates questions about their family/pets and wrote down the answers (all in Spanish!). We finished off class by playing our tarjetas de flash game and TENGO.
Tarea: Review for the test! Make sure you know the vocabulary and look through some of our previous assignments. As always, if you have any questions please contact me :) Class started off with Objetivo #4 and students turning in their crosswords. After going over those two things, we moved on to playing "tarjetas de flash" to review the vocabulary and then we talked about "Dia de Accion de Gracias" (accent on the I in dia and O in accion!). We made Thankful Turkeys (Pavos agradecidos) and students learned some new words and phrases that went along with what they were thankful for. During that time, students also were able to ask questions about their family tree project.
Tarea: Finish your family tree project! Make sure to include the Spanish titles for your family members (Mi hermana Jenny, Mi abuela Suzy, etc.) and make sure to include a picture or drawing of each person. This project should look neat and colorful! :) The next TEST in class will be on the Wednesday AFTER Thanksgiving. We will start class by doing the Objetivo #3 on Family and Pets vocabulary while I check their homework. We will then go over the homework and start a new activity in which students interview their classmates and ask them questions about their family and pets (in Spanish). We will also play "tarjetas de flash" and sing "La familia grande" if time allows. Lastly, I will introduce their big project which will be due the Monday AFTER Thanksgiving. They will be making their family tree and labeling the people in their family in Spanish--they can draw pictures of their family members or print off pictures, whichever they prefer. Below you will see an example of my family tree which I will show them in class.
Here are two versions of the same thing--one is in a word format and the other is a jpeg. The jpeg is a bit fuzzy but if you don't have Word then it's better than nothing :) la_familia_de_sra.docx my_family_tree.jpg Homework: Crosswords due on Monday the 20th and you can start working on the Family Tree Project so you don't have homework during Thanksgiving! :) We started off class with our objetivo #2 where students practiced their family and pets vocabulary and then we moved on to going over the homework and playing a game called "I have, who has" or "Yo tengo, quien tiene?" The game focused on pet/animal vocabulary so students had a couple minutes to review the vocabulary before getting started with the activity. After two rounds of that game, students got into groups of 4-5 and were given a children's book in Spanish and students had to take notes as to what sounds the animals made in Spanish and we talked about why that is, i.e. why dogs say "gaua gaua" in Spanish instead of "ruff ruff"or what have you. The students were really amazed with how much they were able to pick up on in the book even though they may not have seen the words before--context, pictures and cognates really helped them translate their book which was fun to see! I then read all three books aloud so that the students were able to see what the correct pronunciation of the words would be as well as what it was actually saying in English.
Tarea: Finish the "Que ves" activity/worksheet. Make sure to spell out your numbers in Spanish! Today we will start off class with Objetivo #1 for unit Four which will focus on matching vocabulary words with their English equivalents. Students will then make their flashcards and we will do a speaking activity in which I show them family members and they have to tell me how that family member is feeling--mad, happy, sad, etc.. We will end class by singing "La familia grande" if we have time!
Tarea: Cut out and color your flashcards AND the "¿Cómo está tu familia?" worksheet--very similar to our speaking practice in class! We started class by going over the previous test and answering any questions the students had. They did a great job! We then began our new unit on Family and Pets by going over the vocabulary list and learning a new song, "La familia grande." Students translated the lyrics so they could understand better what it was they were singing and we ended class by singing the song together.

Make sure to listen to the audio recording so that you know how to say the words correctly :) Attached you will also see a link to the video of the song "la familia grande" so that you can listen to it and familiarize yourself with the family/pets vocabulary. |
