Today we started off by 5 minutes of review time and then students took their test over seasons, weather and the calendar terms. We then moved on to talking about the Mexican holiday "Día de los muertos" which is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. We learned some terms associated with día de los muertos and with Halloween and then we watched a short video before going over the holiday in more detail.

You can use the video that we watched in class (link given above) and the handout to give you some more ideas on what to write. If you want to look up more on your own--please do! We will have a celebration day in class on miércoles! BRING SCISSORS FOR CLASS ON WEDNESDAY!!!

Today will be our big review day before the test on Monday. We'll start off with objetivo #5 which students will work on individually. Then we'll go over the weather map worksheet and sing our songs from this unit before playing TENGO with our flashcards. After TENGO we will do a listening practice in which I'll give some weather details as well as dates and students will have to tell me which season the description falls under by holding up a piece of paper with the season written on it. We will end class by playing "tarjetas de flash" and answering any questions students may have about the upcoming test.
Tarea: Keep reviewing for the test on Monday! Today we focused more on dates by working on our bell-work assignment in which they listened to me say 10 different dates and they had to write them out numerically (something they'll do for their test next Monday!). Then students interviewed each other and wrote down their classmates' names and birthdays which practiced introductions, numbers and dates. We ended class by looking at a weather map of South America and identifying what the weather was like in a few capitals. We will go over that assignment on Wednesday so make sure to finish it if you didn't have enough time to do so in class.
Tarea: Start studying for your test! Know dates (numbers 1-31, months), weather expressions and days of the week. Today we did our objetivo #3 which went over seasons and days of the week and then we sang a few of our songs to help with vocabulary retention. We then moved on to a worksheet on weather and seasons where students had to come up with sentences based on the picture they saw. We ended class by starting the homework--una crucigrama!
Tarea: Vocabulary crossword Today we started off class with bell-work #2 while I checked their homework. Many students forgot a part of their homework assignments and if that's the case for your student, please encourage them to bring it to class with them on Wednesday to get credit. We went over the homework and talked about common errors so they could fix them at home and then we played "tarjetas de flash." After that, we sang the "Sábado" song as well as "Qué tiempo hace hoy." I then handed out their homework assignment and students began to color it in before class was over.
copy_of_sabado.mp3 Tarea: Finish making your day of the week wheel! Color it in, cut out the wheel and attach it to your "Días de la semana" sheet with the brad provided. Please make sure your student adjusts the wheel every day and that it's somewhere where your student will see it on a daily basis (their desk, their door, the refrigerator, etc.). *Progress Reports will be going out this week (if everything goes according to plan!) so please be on the lookout for an email from me! :) Sorry, I couldn't get the accent mark on miercoles... :(
Students received their graded tests back and we went over any questions they had (they did a great job!). We then moved on to talking about the calendar with our first bell-work which went over the days of the week. Students then got their flashcards and we filled them out and lastly we worked on translating their weather song and then we sang it twice before ending class and then learned a short months of the year song. copy_of_que_tiempo_hace_hoy.mp3 months_of_the_year_song.m4a Homework: Please listen to the songs vocabulary recordings from the previous entry and practice your Spanish words. ALSO make sure you're updating your Weather Observation Sheet!!! Class started by students having 7 minutes or so to review for their test while I collected late/missing homework and answered questions. Students then completed their test over colors and emotions and we briefly went over the test after they all turned it in (I will hand back the tests on Wednesday). We then started our new unit on the calendar and weather. Students filled in their new vocabulary lists and we practiced saying the words in Spanish. I then handed out their long-term homework assignment that they are to work on EVERY day this week (Monday-Sunday!).
weather_vocabulary.m4a calendar_vocabulary.m4a Homework: Listen to the audio file on the vocabulary terms (will post later this evening) and practice saying the words out loud. Record the weather you observed today on your ¿Qué tiempo hace hoy? worksheet and fill it in tomorrow as well! Parents, please make sure students don't just look at the forecast and fill it in all at once--by having the students work on it every day this week, it ensures that they review the terms every day this week thus helping them to memorize the new words/phrases! Also, please make sure they are following ALL the directions :) Today was our review day for the in-class test on Monday. We started by doing a bell-work assignment which covered both colors and emotions vocabulary words and then students shared their comic-strips with each other and I checked the assignment for completion points. We played "tarjetas de flash" with our flashcards and then ended class by playing "TENGO"---my version of BINGO with the terms from the vocabulary list.
Homework: Make sure you have all late homework completed and turned in on Monday! If you turn it in after the test you will only receive half credit. STUDY for your test! Look over the activities we've done in class, vocabulary list, worksheets, listen to the audio files, etc. and bring something to work on quietly in class after you complete your test! If you have any questions, please let me know! Today we focused a lot on colors and emotions by working on a bellwork assignment, asking each other for their favorite colors (also practiced asking for someone's name and responding!) and then we graphed and counted how many people liked each color. We ended class by going over the homework assignment which includes making a comic strip in Spanish showing a conversation between 2 or more people (or things).
Tarea: The next TEST will be in class in a week! Please make sure you are studying and practicing your vocabulary! Also, the copier ink was running low this morning so I'm going to go ahead and include the directions to the comic strip just in case you cannot read it on your copy :) "Make a short story/comic strip in Spanish! Have students draw a conversation between 2 or more people. Make sure to include a greeting, ask how they are doing, response and a farewell! You can also include classroom expressions or any other vocabulary you find useful but only use the vocabulary you know :) Try and make sure your pictures reflect what it is your characters are saying!" |
